We congratulate Etsuro Sotoo, chief sculptor of the Sagrada Familia since 1978, for the
award of the 2024 Ratzinger Prize. This Japanese artist, born in Fukuoka, is the singular
figure that links with the originality that Antoni Gaudí revealed in that Barcelona
temple while lived.
Etsuro Sotoo is a member of the scientific committee of the Gaudí World Congresses
organized by The Gaudí Research Institute with the University of Barcelona since
2014.
The award ceremony will take place on November 22 in the Sala Regia of the Apostolic
Palace and will be conducted by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy
See. Later, he will be received by Pope Francis.
